the mosaic consulting project: sample trainings for corporations

I. Working Effectively Across Cultures

In our communities today, diversity is alternately seen as one of our greatest assets and most precarious problems. This workshop is for corporations who seek to recognize and utilize the diversity in their community as an asset and tactical, strategic advantage in the market place, while developing meaningful and effective ways of understanding, listening to, and responding to challenges around differences. By utilizing The Mosaic Project’s unique experiential approach, the ‘Working Effectively Across Cultures’ workshop provides techniques to create an inclusive “nth culture” in the work setting where all staff members feel more included, engaged, and appreciated.

Outcomes — Participants will:
  1. Learn how to be proactive rather than reactive in their communication across difference
  2. Develop meaningful and effective ways of understanding, listening to and responding to challenges around diversity
  3. Understand diversity in their workplace as an asset rather than a detriment to the professional community
  4. Learn how to create an inclusive ‘nth culture’ in their workplace, where all staff feel more included, engaged and appreciated

II. Team Building and Cooperation in a Multicultural Context

This workshop provides tangible steps toward cultivating strong, unified teams and incorporating individuals’ skills toward common goals. Through a series of Mosaic Project activities, role-plays, and group discussions, participants will explore existing team dynamics and cultivate trust, empathy, fun, and a sense of shared purpose. The curriculum activities begin with an evaluation of current team dynamics and a self evaluation of how each employee fits into that dynamic. Next team members voluntarily share who they are and visions for the team. The workshop concludes with team challenges based on a newly established team vision.

Outcomes — Participants will:
  1. Attain greater trust and empathy toward their colleagues
  2. Cultivate a deeper sense of shared purpose and vision as a team
  3. Acquire tangible steps toward realizing shared vision of a multicultural community
  4. Develop a better understanding of existing team dynamics and behaviors
  5. Explore and investigate how to leverage their individual skill sets and experiences to serve the whole team
  6. Have Fun!

III. Conflict resolution:

This is a workshop for corporations seeking to develop and model effective conflict resolution strategies. Drawing from The Mosaic Project's conflict resolution curriculum, this training develops ways of understanding, listening to, and responding to conflicts and challenges, encourages the use of assertive (as opposed to passive or aggressive) communication techniques, and emphasizes the importance of modeling effective conflict management. The Mosaic Conflict Resolution Training combines The Mosaic Project's step-by-step conflict mediation process with theories of conflict transformation to emphasize the opportunities for positive modeling and personal and institutional growth that conflicts can provide.

Outcomes Participants will:
  1. Understand the importance of modeling effective conflict management for their co-workers
  2. Develop meaningful ways of understanding, listening to and responding to concerns and challenges
  3. Learn how to be proactive rather than reactive in their communications
  4. Practice basic assertive communication techniques
  5. Consider a model for giving and receiving feedback
  6. Engage in a mediated Mosaic-style conflict resolution process
